One of two modern composers have written for this medium (violin
and guitar). Duet by New Zealands David Farquhar patronized and
trivialised the medium compared with the larger scale Two Night
Movements by Australia's Phillip Houghton, a work especially commissioned
by the Jackson Duo.
This was the most commanding and substantial piece in the entire
program. Its sensitive atmospheric writing was evoked consumately
by the duo, especially the violins pungent wailing in the movement
entitled 'Banshee'.
